Athletics at Woods
The 2009-2010 school year was an exciting year for the athletics program at Woods. The school added more programs and our student athletes continued to exceed many expectations. The Booster Club was excited to provide support to the coaches, players, administration and families involved in all of our athletic programs. We are excited for the new school year, a return of our programs from last year and the introduction of a few new programs for 2010-2011.
Woods belongs to the Central Carolina Athletic League, which consists of private, charter and Christian schools in the triangle area. The league was founded in 2006-2007 with Woods playing an instrumental part in its formation. Please visit the following site to learn more about the CCAL - www.theccal.org. Please watch the school calendar for opportunities to come out and support these 7th - 12th grade athletes.
The fall season brings back our coed soccer team. We welcome back Bob Holden, a Woods parent, as head coach. Girl's volleyball will also be back in full swing for its third season. Many of the players have been training during the off season and are excited to return to the "Wolves Den". Laura Ackerman, a Spanish teacher at Woods, is returning as the head coach.
Co-ed Cross Country at Woods was a huge success and will again be offered this season. Jack Morgan, a Woods parent, will be coaching the varsity team.
This winter season will once again include our boy's basketball team, coached again by John Berry. Woods will also see the continued success girl's basketball at Woods. Bryan Matthews, the Woods middle school P.E. teacher will again coach the Lady Wolves. Many of the players have been training during the off season and we look forward to another exciting season. Information regarding the boys' team is available at www.woodsathletics.com. Information about the girls' team can be found at http://www.woodscharter.org/lady-wolves-basketball.
We look forward to starting varsity Tennis and Ultimate Frisbee in the spring. Both of these programs have been running as club activities over the past year or two and there is hope that their continued support will allow them to become part of the varsity programs.
