I have been at working at Woods since 2003. Like others at Woods, I have wear many hats. One of the most inspiring hats that I wear is that of a teacher! This year I am excited to be introducing Environmental Science to 11th graders at Woods! I have lots of ideas, field trips and overnight trips that I am working on and I am very excited to introduce students to this interdisciplinary sciecne class!
In addition to my teaching duties, I am also the HS Counselor! In this dual role, I am able to get to know the students, and then help guide them as they make decisions for their future. I thoroughly enjoy this aspect of my job. I never get bored, I am always working with students and am helping them find what their passion is and how to achieve their goals!
I have a Bachelor's degree in Science - Biology from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY. I received my first Masters of Arts in Science Education from New York University and my second Masters in Education in School Counseling from North Carolina State University. I hold teaching certificates in NY. New York City and NC for Science grades 6-12. In addition, I am a Licensed School Counselor for K-12 in NC. I am currently working on my Environmental Educator certificate through NC office of Environemntal Education.
Before moving to NC in 1997, I taught for six years at DeWitt Clintin HS in the Bronx NY. This experience solidified my desire to be a teacher! I took a twelve year hiatus from the classroom to start a family, and have three lovely young daughters.
The most appealing aspect of Woods for me is the relationships that are formed between the staff and students. I can remember that ONE teacher in my HS career who was there for me, encouraged me and picked me up when I fell down. Each day I teach, I aspire to be that ONE teacher for a student! At Woods, these relationships are encouraged, fostered and are the cornerstone of our community. It is the"Woods way"!
