Elementary School
We believe the early years of schooling offer a golden opportunity for children to establish a firm foundation for success in life. We create an environment where our students gain knowledge, skills, and habits that engender a genuine love of learning. As part of their Woods experience, students learn to function and contribute as valued members of a community.
Academic and social skills develop in a community
Embarking on the journey from child to young adult at Woods, each child develops connections with:
- his/her own teacher and the five other teachers in the division
- his/her classmates
- parents of classmates, thanks to broad and many-faceted parent involvement
Grades K-4 are self-contained classes of around 16 students, with weekly lessons in art, French, music and physical education with teachers who are specialist in those fields. For all grades, homework is chosen for practice and enrichment.
Our cornerstone is the Core Knowledge curriculum, selected for its focus on building knowledge that is solid, sequenced, specific, and shared. You may find some Core Knowledge resources here.
