MS Band 2010-2011
There are three middle school bands for 2010-11:
- 5th & 6th Grade Band (Etherington)
- 7th Grade Band (Vooris)
- 8th Grade Band. (Etherington)
These performing groups meet once per week as part of the regular class schedule. In order to make progress with a short amount of classroom time, it is strongly recommended that students take lessons with an instrument teacher while in Band. Our focus in the classroom is on playing together, not on learning the very basics. Both traditional and non-traditional instruments are welcome in Band.
To be ready for Band, students should have a basic grasp of their instrument and note-reading. For some students, 4-6 weeks of lessons is enough to be ready, but for others it may take longer. Students are allowed to transfer into Band mid-year once they have met this goal.
For students taking up a new instrument, the summer offers an ideal opportunity to take lessons in preparation for the start of school. Please visit www.woodscharter.org/music for information about our teachers, or you can enroll with an outside instructor.
Band students (and their parents/guardians) should complete and return the attached sheet in order to be enrolled in the class for August 2010.
