  • Regional Spelling Bee
  • 3/08/2010
  • Emma Lanford (fourth grader) made it to round 4 in the regional spelling bee on Saturday, March 6, at Duke University. She was in the top 17 out of 54 students, most of whom were 8th graders. Some of the words she had to spell were loam, succotash, and implement. The winner was an 8th grader from another charter school. We are very proud of Emma for representing Woods so well, and we look forward to next year's bee in elementary and middle school. Thanks to Heather Gallagher for organizing our local bee.

  • Music Technology Projects
  • 1/24/2010
  • The high school Jazz Studies students wanted to create an online musical experience, inspired by the web page inbflat.net - a page full of embedded YouTube videos with instrumentalist playing in the key of B flat. We chose to play in the key of D major, and the results can be seen at www.woodscharter.org/keyofd - you can even see Mr. Bryan playing his dulcimer! The 5th & 6th grade band also tried this experiment, but in the key of C major. Their page is at www.woodscharter.org/keyofc.

  • After School Policy
  • 11/23/2009
  • This email is to remind the community of Board policy related to students on campus after the regular school day ends. It is also a reminder of our first home basketball games this coming Friday, November 20. Many students and parents abide by the rules and participate enthusiastically. Thank you. There are a few students who push the limits, and some parents do not pick up their children on time. For that reason, we are reminding everyone of the expectations.
  • Volunteer Recognition Program
  • 10/20/2009
  • Just a quick reminder for our wonderful volunteers to ensure you record your hours online. It is simple to do and we need to ensure everyone is taking the time to complete this step. Go to our website and at the very top is VOLUNTEERS. Click on that and it will take you to a page where you will see the registry for volunteer hours. Quick, easy and will allow me to add you to our new Volunteer Recognition Program. Details to come soon but remember; we can only recognize those that have signed the registry. If you have volunteered at school and signed in, those hours will be entered by Kayla, our after school receptionist. Any questions or ideas please email hgallagher@woodscharter.org.
